Audio enhancements in R2.4

Included in R2.4 are some enhancements which allow the radio to be customized to suit differing audio conditions.

The Environment setting allows the radio to boost the received audio and/or the dynamic range. In The choices are Loud and Workgroup and the choice would depend on where the radio is used. Loud would be more suitable for users who are in a high noise area. Workgroup would be better suited for control room applications. This additional audio processing is performed in the DSP.

Preference allows some  If Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Treble Boost, Mid Boost, or Bass Boost are selected, the DSP processes the audio with some predefined filters. Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 perform band pass filtering with different cutoff frequencies whereas Treble, Mid and Bass boost apply a 3dB/8va filtering to the received audio.

Trill Enhancement will make the radio look for a Alveolar trill in the transmitted audio. If such a sound is detected, the radio will alter the compression slightly to allow the trill sound to be transmitted without distortion. An Alveolat trill is present in a number of Romance; Slavic and some African languages.

The above can also be changed by the user via the menu (display model required) if the User Selectable Audio Profile menu option is ticked in the CPS.

The Noise Suppressor feature enables the transmitting radio to automatically suppress noise on the microphone when detected. This gives the radio user a better audio experience by reducing unwanted ambient sounds. It is recommended to always have this feature enabled as this is one of the main selling points of MOTOTRBO.

When ticked, Audio Feedback Suppression makes the radio look for audio feedback and eliminate it from the transmitted audio. This feature has been included in MOTOTRBO since R2.1

Intelligent Audio Response has been a MOTOTRBO feature since R2.0. When enabled, the radio will monitor the background noise level and adjust the receive level accordingly.
